Woz talks about innovation. Great thoughts!

Here’s a portion of a recent interview with Wozniak by De Telegraaf. Woz co-founded Apple

“Apple was satisfied with the quality of the smartphone but wanted something it could amaze the world with. When Apple releases products, they need to be groundbreaking. Companies should hold off on entering markets until they have a seriously compelling product to offer. Products like that need to be be developed in isolation from the rest of the company, and it requires developers to steer clear from paths already traveled.”

Fashion Compassion-Don't be guilty

Lord, don't let me be guilty of "fashion compassion". The kind of care that's temporary and only interested in the cool issue that's getting the media attention.

It's the kind of concern that celebrities show temporarily, until the next one comes along or the camera's leave. But the needs remain, the pain continues and the compassion can't cease.

There's so many ways to help those in need. You can help locally, community wide, regionally or internationally. Just look or ask around.

Don't let the media spotlight be the only way you see the needs around you.

Got A Weird Request? God’s Got the Solution!

Background:
Last year I found myself working with ReclaimKids to start medical clinic in Liberia. For those of you that have never done this, its quite a daunting task when this is your first solo humanitarian project. You need to do a lot of research, find organizations that are willing to donate free medical supplies, raise funds, convert your garage into a mini-storage container, find shipping companies that are reasonably priced and then get all of that stuff overseas somehow and through customs. It took me almost a year to get everything done but it has been to most rewarding experience that I have ever done.
Whaaa...?
Last week, I received an email from the missionary that I worked with asking if I could get 2 microscopes for the clinic. Not your garden type microscopes that you buy for $50 to get your kids interested in science. These are microscopes that are found in hospitals that are several thousands of dollars. I thought to myself, where in the world am I going to get a microscope......let alone 2 of them? Most of the medical supply companies that I previously worked with donate items such as syringes, needles, bandages, medications, and crutches. But microscopes?? No. Never came cross one that had that in their warehouse waiting to donate. And if they did, it usually came with a 20k price tag in a 20 foot container shipped with an entire supply of equipment

Should I? Shouldn’t I?
I have to admit that this thought did cross my mind when our pastor asked us if anyone had a prayer request on Sunday morning. Never heard of a “microscope prayer” in my lifetime and I am not sure I ever will again. Its not the usual thing that are spoken of when prayer requests are taken.

“Oh ye of little faith!”
Sometimes I think God turns around these things quickly just to see the look on our faces. I have to admit that I was a bit sheepish when the next day I received word that 1 microscope was on its way. I now remain completely embarrassed knowing that there is another coming through in November. For some reason the quote “Oh ye of little faith” still is racing through my brain. I would like to believe that I remembered the quote but I am pretty sure that God planted it there. I am also pretty sure He is still shaking His head, smiling and thinking that His children always underestimate His connections!

So the morale of this blog is this:
  1. You don’t need to have the connections....God has them.
  2. If you have to choose between “Should I?” and “Shouldn’t I” , always choose the first with God.
  3. If you feel the need to help .....you might just be the person that God is using to answer a prayer such as mine.
  4. One answered prayer has the ability to touch millions of lives.

SLOW DOWN!

Sometimes we get so focused on the destination that we don't enjoy the journey. Allow yourself to slow down and enjoy moments.

I've been thinkin':

Should we get as excited about the sowing & watering as we are about the reaping?Lord, help me to rejoice in the seasons

Be who God has called you to be.

If David had listened to well meaning advisers, the Bible story wouldn't have been David kills Goliath, but "David dies on battlefield wearing Saul's armor"

Interactive iPad Presentation

Taught today using my iPad plugged into the projector.

I was able to draw on the iPad, display scriptures, underline stuff in the verses and draw live on a large screen

Here's how I did it:

The app was Sketchbook: http://bit.ly/iPadSketch
I plugged it in using: http://bit.ly/iPadPreach
(Keep in mind that the projector doesn't work with every app)

The scriptures that needed to appear in the presentation were done in a text program. I then did a screen shot and put it in my iPad photo library.

Once in my library I could import them into Sketchbook. I had them as single images in my gallery, you could also put them on layers.

Any other points or quotes were done the same way.

Once in the gallery I could click through them and they would show up on the screen. If i wanted to draw over the text or highlight/circle it, I would click "edit" and it would open quick and allow me to draw on it. I just used a brush with low opacity.

So it just became a combination of layers being turned off and on and the gallery.

I also used a stylus.

It took a little practice, but it was very effective.
